World outcry

Monday, June 29, 2015

1. Against the shameless market domain:

It is imperative an urgent summon of a “refounded” United Nations with a Socio-Economic Security Council, to stop first and prevent afterwards the social deterioration of a distinctive system of speculation, production relocation and war (3 billion dollars a day while thousands of people die of hunger and neglect, most of them children from one to five years old)...
It is very urgent to re-establish the WTO (World Trade Organization) within the framework of the United Nations, and firmly request the IMF and the World Bank (“for reconstruction and development”) to fulfill their original mission and stop being obedient tools of the more prosperous and wealthy of Earth.

“Fulfill your duties” say to Greece the tycoons and institutions, which represent them. Who incurred the debt? Responsible, yes, but with well-defined "tempos" so they do not contribute increasing inequalities that the current process of "abidance" exacerbate: increasing the number of millionaires ... but, much more, the number of needy community. And, according to OXFAM / INTERMON, 85 persons have more wealth than half of humanity!

We should fulfill all the duties so that all can exercise their rights.
Global outcry.

2. Against fanaticism, whatever its source, especially when, from the most threatening and intolerable positions, commit murder in the name of God! and encourages hatred and intolerance.

Public outcry to convene a special session of the United Nations General Assembly in which would be refound, with first emergency measures, providing it with a system that had the necessary means and authority in order to prevent, with strong immediate action, the all sorts of attacks in which the plutocratic groups (G7, G8, G20) created by neoliberalism, are totally ineffective.

This new    democratic  multilateralism  should  rapidly  have  the  capacity
-military as well through appropriate permanent alliances- to foresee and eradicate any activity affecting global security (terrorism of September 11, 2001; deadly invasion of Iraq in 2003; improper treatment of the "Arab Spring", particularly in the case of Libya and Egypt; war in Syria; terrible attacks of the "Islamic state" (which carries a totally misleading and unacceptable interpretation of the Koran ...) as well as to regulate bilateral and trade relations with those countries that continue to infringe the most basic respect to human rights and, even worse, that finance terrorist groups ...

. . .

Public outcry. Now we can, "We, the peoples" freely expose our disagreements and proposals both in-person and digitally. Let's do it. Otherwise, the tremendous warning of Albert Camus would be applied: "I despised them because being able to do so much, they ventured so little."

Debts that should be paid urgently:

Friday, June 26, 2015

Haiti: The earthquake took place more than five years ago. The aids promised, a serious evidence of the current lack of solidarity, have been only reached partially.

Nepal: how quickly the immense tragedy occurred in Nepal only two months ago has been forgotten!

As proof, an example is sufficient. In this case, the two examples indicated above. But it is obvious that it is absolutely essential to have an efficient democratic multilateralism, proceeding urgently to refound the United Nations in order that they could represent really “We, the peoples ...”. It is urgent  to convene an Extraordinary General Assembly to deal with the major issues that should be solved quickly, with the presence of all the countries throughout the world, and representatives of civil society (it is all studied: composition of the General Assembly; to add Socioeconomic  and Environmental Councils to the current Security Council...).

·        Urgently strengthen the international cooperation and development aid: the issue of immigrants is an absolute injustice. Again, Europe looks the other way! The Mediterranean Sea bloodstained ... and the only thing that comes to their mind is to put border fences to those persons who are leaving their countries of origin! Since the beginning of the activities of the United Nations System, it was clear that the key word was "com-partir" (to share) with others, to help the endogenous and integral development, so that all countries could benefit from the use of its natural resources. Gradually the aids became loans granted under draconian conditions, cooperation was substituted by exploitation ... and the United Nations by oligarchic groups (G-7, G-8...G-20) that constitute a real affront to the whole of humanity: they envisage that a few rich countries have in their hands the common destiny of 193!
It is urgently necessary to replace the "market values” by the "democratic principles".

A few days ago -June 19, 2015- the press announced ("El País”, June 19) that "wars force the displacement of 42,500 persons a day." Take note of these figures, especially those who invaded Iraq in 2003 and who, instead of helping the development, have currently allowed that thousands of persons starve daily while 3 billion dollars are invested in weapons and military expenditures. I never tire of repeating that only in this way it will be possible to face this terrible tragedy that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees denounces.

II.                           To demand an explanation on:

·        What really represents to assess a 'consumption growth, "which is positioned at 0.3%.
·        The same can be said on the “recover of population growth”, when it represents 0.1%!
·        To know what it means the news that the number of millionaires in Spain is increasing 40% (this is a percentage!).
·        To consider the relevance of the news that universities lose 55,000 students this year. It is a worrying reflection of the current situation. It is attributed in part to another equally worrying factor which is the progressive reduction of the population, due to the "exile" of more than 60,000 persons in 2014.

III. Look very closely what happens   -so that rapid amendments are
accomplished- in the future Court on Gürtel case, recalling the need to comply with the full independence of the Judicial Power  as established by Montesquieu.

To follow, as well with perseverance, the current energy policy in order to be revised immediately or as soon as the government changes. To take care of the environment is an essential intergenerational responsibility. Then, "Spain moves further away from the renewable target for 2020," entitles a full information published in press on 17 June. It is morally imperative that we take seriously what can happen, reaching points of no return, if there are not taken from now on all over the world -again it is necessary the refoundation of the United Nations- a series of measures leading to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, and very specifically, CO2.

IV. Worldwide outcry demanded to force the Republican Party of the United States to redress the core issues for peace and security in today's world: it cannot be possible that the Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989, or the right to food have not been signed... always due to the attitude of the Republican Party of the United States opposing to the United Nations System. Thus, in 1992 the World Trade Organization was established directly outside the scope of the United Nations. They have continued opposing President Obama to sign the Convention on the Rights of the Child and to belong to the International Criminal Court. However, only a few days ago, in the column "Opinion" of “El País" (June 16) was published that "South Africa makes fun of justice" for refusing to hand over the President of Sudan, Omar al-Bashir. The one that laughs at justice at international level is the Republican Party of the United States who refused to sign this great covenant. A few days ago, in excellent testimonies, Karel Armstrong said that "the West must learn to share the planet with equal and not with subordinates." Above all, the current West must regroup quickly to become, in the case of Europe, from a monetary union to a political and economic union, and defend the "democratic principles", as lucidly enshrined in the UNESCO Constitution, that should "guide humanity".
To figure that there are still those who continue to defend the "confederates" and apartheid symbols! To think that in 34 States, most of them Republicans, the death penalty and executions still abide!

You see: we cannot remain as passive spectators. We must use all means at our disposal -today we can all express freely- to start with urgency a redress process, to re-channel many current wrong directions.

Disarmament for sustainable human development,

Friday, June 19, 2015

for a new economy and a new democratic multilateral leadership.

Com-partir (to share), is the only solution to avoid the serious social inequalities and asymmetries of all kinds that has led the globalized neoliberalism.

I insist –because it is a crucial reference in my daily-behavior- that is morally unacceptable that every day die of hunger over 20,000 people while 3 billion dollars are invested in military expenditures and armament. It would be enough with a reasonable reduction of these enormous and disproportionate figures to quickly and substantially increase endogenous, sustainable and human development worldwide; to take care of the environmental intergenerational legacy, ensuring that the irreversible deterioration of the habitability of Earth does not take place; to promote international cooperation in order to put into practice the implementation of the major priorities of the United Nations (food, water, health, ecology, education, peace ...); and, above all, to make it possible the "new beginning" that advocates the Earth Charter.

All human beings equal in dignity. Every unique human being able to create, to design their future in a process of permanent learning, so that all are "free and responsible" as masterly UNESCO defines the "educated", always acting under their own reflections and never to the dictates of others. Zero tolerance should be applied to fanaticism and dogmatism.

Wings for flying high in the times that are coming may not be burdened or present any adherence.

Facing the "deep crisis of ultra-liberalism", the Crans Montana Forum which I just attended in Brussels, aims to "put back the human being at the center of all policy and strategy”.

It is time for action, because they can be reached points of no return. And we have multiple diagnoses. Now it is time for implementing, without delay, appropriate treatment. It is urgent the refounding of the United Nations System after the inefficient and unfortunate plutocratic groups (G7, G8, G20), which were established by neoliberalism in the eighties. How could it be claimed -and being accepted- that 6, 7, 8 ... 20 countries guide the destinies of 193? And above all, the "democratic principles"-that with such accuracy and vision establishes the Constitution of UNESCO- must be re-placed where the Republican Party of the United States, in its hegemonic ambitions placed the commercial laws with the Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher as obedient acolyte.

Now, in the digital era, it is already possible that "We the peoples ...", silent and obedient from immemorial time, raise the voice and actively participate. Now, with the woman progressively incorporated into the decision-making process, it is possible the impossible dream of emancipation of humanity until a few years ago.

Now we can foresee in the cyberspace great popular outcries for radical changes that are needed urgently. Fortunately, the “star wars” in outer space will not occur. It will be in the "digital" space where the “new peace”, the great transition from force to word, from a culture of imposition, domination and violence to a culture of encounter, dialogue, reconciliation and peace will take place.

How can Europe, the great “emigrant continent”, refuse immigrants now? How can hinder their access rather than strengthen development aid for a decent life in their origin countries? Why not quickly completing their constitutional structure with a political and economic union? How can it be accepted that the expected Europe-lighthouse has been stopped and confined to a monetary union? Why Europe follows the guidelines issued by the Republican Party, when President Obama himself, for the good of his country, put them aside?

Convincing voices (female, by the way) rose in Brussels to demand urgently appropriate solidarity, the substitution by ethical values of the stock-market ones.

In Brussels I warned –once again!- that if there is no evolution there will be revolution, and that the difference between these two words is the "r" of responsibility. Let us stop following the irresponsible and, urgently, facilitate the transition from an economy based on speculation, production delocalization and war to an economy of sustainable and human development. From a culture of war to a culture of peace, led by a democratic and efficient multilateralism.

The best solution -though we have to overcome the immense inertia of those who cling to perverse adage "If you want peace, prepare for war"- is disarmament (including, of course, nuclear), applying a fair part of the colossal means dedicated to security to the development of all countries so equal dignity and quality of life become a reality in all of them.

Disarmament for development: that simple. In order to do it the United Nations refoundation is needed urgently. The solution exists. There is lack of courage and leadership in order to apply it.

Four key points

Thursday, June 18, 2015

1) “It is foolish to confuse value with price”, as warned the visionary Antonio Machado”. Stubborn are who, in the eighties of the last century, substituted values by price, social justice and democratic principles by market laws.

Were stubborn and guilty President Reagan and the Republican Party of the United States that he represented so radically. And Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was stubborn as well. The ethical values were substituted by stock markets. They marginalized the UN –I do not get tired of repeating it- substituting them by plutocratic groups of 6, 7, 8 ... 20 countries.

But those who were very stubborn as well progressively adopted globalizing neoliberal guidelines, which have led to a hazardous increase in inequality, social upheavals, a few more millionaires, to lots of poor, homeless, unemployed, humiliated...

Stubborn have been those who instead of facing these trends with a quality education -to prepare "free and responsible" human beings, as established by the UNESCO’s Constitution- have followed the instructions of the PISA reports, logically, because as they come from the OECD, they seek to have instead of being.

They have been stubborn and perverse promoters. But also stubborn, very stubborn, those who have followed these unfortunate guidelines because they have confused values with prices and are still clinging to money...

But soon there will be many, that agree with Mr. Antonio Machado that will not tolerate the imposed rules of conduct that have led to a humanly unacceptable situation. And will raise their voices...

2) To go you must have been before. Will the United Kingdom leave the European Union?

Will the ill-fated prospects of a “Brexit” referendum occur in order that the British summon up with a "wide popular desire" to leave the Mother Europe? How they can pretend to be separated if the British have never joined? England continues with the Pound currency and not the Euro, that is, to our misfortune, all that now joins the "European Union". The UEE instead of being a symbol of the implementation of the excellent Charter of Fundamental Rights of year 2000 and being as a reference and watchtower of a genuine democracy, has gradually weakened the pillars on which it was based and is now a simple monetary union without political or economic union, obedient to the instructions from the Republican Party of the United States.

By the way, Mr. Cameron followed the example of the democrat President Barak Obama and rather than only austerity, cuts and risk premiums, issued 70 billion pounds as incentives for job creation and economic development, as Obama did with Bernake in the United States, with more than 300 billion dollars.

The United Kingdom does not have, therefore, neither the currency of the European Union or their economic regulations. And if that were not enough, collects a substantial "British check”...

They never were really there. It would be convenient now deciding to embed into a political union based on "democratic principles" so lucidly established in 1945 who drafted UNESCO’s Constitution. And to contribute to the refounding of a United Nations endowed with moral and physical authority urgently needed in the digital era. We would go together, returning to reestablish ethical values instead of the stock values.

Once and for all, we must put a stop to the debacle of all kinds that involves globalization, and only in Europe followed by governments lacking of compass and path.

3) "If they do not let us dream, we will not let them sleep."

I loved this "poster of 15-M". I still love it now. Recent history contains enough examples of what seemed impossible ... and is today reality. "We obtained it because we did not know that it was impossible" ... "Only those who are able to see the invisible -and not just what enlightens the communication flashlights- will be able to do the impossible" ... "Everything is done and everything is-possible ... but who if not all? " as Miquel Martí i Pol quoted in a poem that I never tire of repeating. Today we can promote great popular outcries. The time for silence is over. The time of "no choice" is over. Let us invent the future. Now it is a good moment because human tension encourages creativity.

Let us dream and act ... and if they do not let that our dreams impossible yesterday become possible tomorrow ... we will not let them sleep!

3) Football, from sport to business and large-scale corruption.

I love football as a spectacle, as a hobby, as well affiliation. But all outrages are bad and often turn out in extremely detrimental situations.

Political and religious disaffection has yielded to football fans of pernicious roles, reaching in some cases a real dementia, to uncontrolled deluge of lack of respect and dignity.

There is a talk of "market summer, autumn, winter" ... I think some players' transfers and additions should be made otherwise.

Sporting events are scheduled in the media so that the audience allows huge incomes and promote public prices comparatively inadmissible because they comprise a grievance to the same players that, in the hands of "sole administrators", do not welcome these modalities of action.

They wear names of countries, companies or institutions on t-shirts that, with few exceptions, discredit to the players, who are turned into "sandwich-men".

Then it turns out that some of these countries that have promoted corruption in FIFA -yes, and also the World Federation, sometimes encouraged by nationals... - and the joint is another deplorable "scene”. I like football. This is the reason I would want the courage to pull out from t-shirts the letters do not deserve because they stain sport and sportsmen. And proceed with the full weight of healthy hobbies and sports enthusiasts, to situate rascals in their place. Those who behave like this would deserve an extra applause from the “true” fans. And the stubborn fanatics? They would become progressively “good fans”...

Another unbearable shame: thousands of immigrants remain adrift in Southeast Asia

Thousands of immigrants remain adrift. And the lack of solidarity of the states of the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) in the Andaman Sea is similar to that of the EU in the Mediterranean. Here, instead of substantial aid -so diminished in the last years because "you have to pay the debt" - European leaders sent naval vessels to block their path. There are closed sea borders and the nations involved blame each other ... while the occupants of the barges, mostly Muslims "Rohingya", fleeing the extreme poverty are at serious risk of starvation.

It is a shame, one more, while the plutocratic groups (G7, G8 ...) on which the neoliberals substituted the United Nations, with the ethics and compass lost, are becoming delinquents. And -now!-the unsupportive countries appeal to the UN.

Before it is too late, will they become aware that a "United Nations of emergency” should be re-founded?

A great outcry should raise in-person and digital, in every town of Earth.

"Complicit silence".

The drifting of the West

The distinctive essence of the West has been lost. Now, what counts are stock values, business, financial transactions ... Everything is measured by the indexes of macroeconomics and those that reflect the real welfare of citizens are forgotten.

Social inequalities are increasing. The habitability of Earth is worsening. Those who are living in the prosperous neighborhood of the global village do not reach the 18% of humanity.

The European Union is monetary (and not political and economic).

Development aid has been dramatically reduced. Outbreaks of xenophobia are increasing alarmingly. Since the unfortunate time of President Reagan and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher -which continues today through the Bush-Merkel close connection- neoliberalism has been imposed in the West, and particularly now in Europe.

The West of Obama is agitated by the immense power of the Republican Party, maximum representative of the hegemonic ambitions, military force and aversion to multilateralism. But, nevertheless, Obama resists and moves forward. Europe steps back. The number of millionaires increases ... but above all, the number of poor, who have to go to emergency meal centers (community kitchens)...

Specialized in looking the other way, the current leaders yield to all ethical principles: universal justice is suspended before the negotiation (China); human rights (Saudi Arabia, Qatar ...) are forgotten; rearmament is encouraged rather than start reducing the excessive military spending to provide a decent life for so many human beings who today live in unacceptable conditions.

For business, exploitation takes place instead of cooperation...

Markets rule.

It is necessary, first, the refounding of the United Nations System that neoliberalism substituted by plutocratic groups, and rebuild the "democratic principles" -which "should guide humanity", as established by the Constitution of UNESCO- where the market laws were imposed.

The "peoples" will no longer remain as impassive spectators of what is happening. The time for silence is over. Now, humans are no longer invisible and can express freely progressively. I am convinced that in a short period of time, the scientific, academic, artistic, literary and intellectual communities will lead the great transition that is approaching. The current situation cannot continue. It is exactly the opposite of what should be expected from the West... and from the guidelines set up by those drafted the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union in year 2000…

The drift of the West would halt at the same moment in which the essential values, which were displaced in the early eighties of last century by the globalizing neoliberalism, would be re-positioned in its place.
